First of all, thank you to all of you who left comments. Cathy B is the winner of our wall hanging! But don't be discouraged if you didn't win this time. I promise, there are more giveaways to come!

I got a project done this weekend. I wasn't completely sure of how it was going to work, but it did just a fine. I made a coaster! I picked out a design, put it to cross stitch fabric, and sewed it to some cork. I put it through my sewing machine! I was afraid something was going to get broken, but it worked without a problem!

Since I know that i can do this, now I am going to offer them up for sale too! All you have to do is tell me what design you want and how many, and we can negotiate from there. For this one, I would charge $5.00.

And I do want to say that when mom and I decided on prices of things, we are also figuring shipping. But we are negotiable. In this economy, its almost crazy not to be.

A friend of mine asked me how much we were selling our bags for. And after some discussion, the size that you see will be $30. Keeping in mind that it takes about $20 for mom to make it. She can make them bigger, smaller, different colors, and we are even working on shapes.

I love messenger bag sized bags, mom likes the size we have posted, and she is planning on making one that is an overnight bag size.

I am still working on the Twilight piece, and let me tell you that piece is a chore! Being the size that it is, if i miss one little square... I don't even walk to talk about it...

Anyways, keep the comments coming! Mom is still working on writing her "article" but she is on vacation this week, I am sooo jealous!

GIVEAWAY GIVEAWAY!!

First off, let me just say that we did not make this. Mom found this and asked me if she thought someone might want it. I said "lets do our first give away as a thank you to our few readers that we have at the moment!" She thought that was a great idea.

Since we are in the St. Louis area, we never really know what the weather is going to be like from one day to the next. Now its starting to get darker earlier, the wind is blowing a bit harder, and sometimes its just down right cold. The flip flops can take you back to a warmer time, which could have been only a week ago...

Ok, so this is how I am planning to do this... All you have to do is leave me a comment. And by Sunday, I will take all of the comments and print them out. I will cut them up individually and then one of us will draw them out of a hat. Does that sound fair?

I took one more shot of the hanging and placed a ruler next to it to give you an idea of how big this hanging is.

In other news, I have convinced mom to write an "article" to post, but she asked that I give her some time to think about it... Being the wonderful daughter that I am, I told her to take all the time she needs but I want it pretty soon! So, coming soon to this blog near you, an article by my momma!

I also got a project 75% complete. I am making a coaster for a friend, and I have the top part finished. She loves the Apple Inc. symbol, and she seems to drink a lot of soda at work, so I thought why not make her a coaster.

And this is going to be sewing to cork backing. Let me know if you want one.

What a week! I was so busy every night after work, I only had time to make dinner, clean it up, clean myself up, and go to bed. But last night, of course was Project Runway which motivated me to sit down and get to work and make it work. Its a great thing that I did, because i finished quilting the '57 Chevy quilt!

Tonight, I am going to a trivia night for United Way. So, depending on how late we are out there tonight will determine if I pull my machine out and sew up the sides. I bought a house last year and at the time I was living alone with my dog, Lucy.

I had planned on making one bedroom obviously my room, and the other I had planned on making into my sewing room. Well, I decided that my friend and her 2 dogs should move in and now I don't have a sewing room. The only problem that it has presented so far is when I need my sewing machine, I have to set it up in either the living room or at the kitchen table... But its not a huge deal until 3 little puppies want to help.

Meet Daisy, Piper, and Lucy! They are really good when it comes to having my machine out. They do their best to stay out of the cords and not play in the pins! Usually they just relax to the sound of the machine. Depends on who is feeling feisty and wants to play.

This weekend is also the Strange Folks Fest in O'Fallon! This will be my first year going and I am super excited. I am going this year to check it out, and if it is as awesome as the website makes it look, we are considering having a booth next year. We are also scoping out the OTHS Craft Fair this year to decide if we should take a gamble for next year. The craft fair at OTHS is a fund raiser for their band. All I know so far is that its at the high school in O'Fallon Illinois November 7 and 8. As soon as I know anything else, I will post it!

Now that my '57 Chevy quilt is done, I don't know for sure what to start on next. I have so many projects that its hard to choose which one to start next. Should I start an embroidery project, should I buckle down and get the Twilight project done before starting on something else, decisions decisions.

Any suggestions?

Pictures, pictures, and more pictures!

Ok, there are plenty of new pictures to take a peek at! Its pretty much every project I have at the moment. And there are 3 shots of one style of bag that mom makes too!!

Basically, everything we have we can make to your want/need.

This really isn't much of a post... More of a "check out our new pictures!"

If you, dear reader, have any questions or comments, please don't hesitate. And I promise, as soon as more projects are completed, we will post more pictures.

For some reason, the Flickr site is not responding. I don't know what the problem is, but I am sure its getting fixed.

As soon as it is up and running though, the pictures will be there!

This is a good update, though! I added a link to our flickr page. AND! I tried it myself, it works! Yeah!

But, this is the only way I can figure out how to show the pictures. Its kind of a pain, but for the sake of you seeing the actual pictures, it works just fine.

Projects

So, this weekend has prety much been dedicated to working on projects that have been sitting around. Projects like the Twilight cross stitch project that I mentioned in the last post. I started this in August, and needless to say, i havent gotten very far.

But its not because of lack of trying... There are just a whole lot of stitches to do... I am staying optamistic though. The pattern is 4 pages all together, and I am almost finished with the first page.

This is another project I have been working on. Basically, its a yard of 57 Chevys. I am planning on sending it to the St. Louis Children's Hospital, unless someone wants to purchase it...

Before my grandmother passed, she taught me how to quilt. She told me that she would make lap quilts for the SLCH, but never really alluded to how many she would send.

In 1972, she and my grandpa lost their youngest daughter to cancer in November. Every year since then, the would not only donate time and money to the SLCH, but my grandmother would make lap quilts. Depending on the amount of time she had to make them would determine how many she would donate.

When she passed on in June, my family decided that since the only "charity" she ever talked about was the hospital, they decided that if any monetary donations they should be made to the hospital. After my dad made a call to the hospital, we found out that every year, she never sent less then 10 handmade quilts of all sizes but mainly lap quilts. Talk about an awesome way to give back.

I can't say that I will ever be able to do that much, but I would like to try to continue doing something. She was a great lady and the best grandmother.

So what does this have to do with getting projects, more truthfully, not getting projects done?? Its her fault that I have a couple of projects going all at once.

Cross Stitch

Well, I don't know for sure what mom got accomplished last night, but I know I got nothing accomplished.

I watch Project Runway every Thursday, and while I watch I also work on my own projects. It gives me motivation and inspiration. Well, last night I was working on a Twilight cross stitch project. Its 144 x 180, and will be framed in an 8 x 10 frame. This is what it should look like when its done.

And its all counted...

Well, I figured out I had made 3 stitches where I shouldn't have and spent almost an hour ripping it out. I honestly felt like just scrapping the project and moving on to something else, but I didn't. I just put it away for the night.

Today, I have a pounding headache, my eyes hurt, and my hands hurt... Moral?? Keep count no matter what!!

Although, I have to say, I am kind of excited to see it finished!

I think i should elaborate a little more regarding my first post...

Let me being by thanking you for stopping by. Hopefully, you continue to stop by and check us out every once in a while. I am hoping that the focus stays on quilting and the many things that my mom and I create together.

Secondly, let me really introduce myself and my mother. I am Shanna, my mom is Jolene. Mom has been sewing for as long as I can remember. She has made plenty of things from bridesmaids' dresses to purses to quilts.

I have only been quilting a short time, but i was taught by my grandmother. I have made a few quilts, and some pictures of some of them are on our flickr page. You may otice that 3 of the pictures look extremely professional, well that is because they are. I finished the quilts, but I never got pictures of them sadly.

The Elvis quilt was a panel. That was what my grandmother taught me the stitching on. I gave it as a gift (I know I should have kept my first quilt) but it was to a friend who LOVED Elvis. The hearts and sunbonnet girl was the first quilt I made that included embroidery. That was also given as a gift. I can't help it, I like giving things to people! And finally, The Cure quilt was made by me and my mom for my aunt, who is a survivor! We put it together in one day, on Christmas Eve actually, and my grandmother helped us quilt it that day too. We gave it my aunt the very next day! So thats why there are pictures from the web for those specific quilts.

Like I said, I was taught to quilt by my grandmother. She had been quilting since she was 17. She learned from a church group. Every grandchild and great grandchild got a baby quilt when we were born. We also got one at graduation and as a wedding gift. Unfortunately, she passed on a couple months ago, but she gave me one of the greatest of gifts by teaching me this wonderful art.

Mom and I plan to make more things together and post pictures. We love creating things. We can make things specially ordered, we can make things that just come to mind, it really doesnt matter. We just want to share our gift with the world, or at least our readers!
